Where: Skibotn field station

This will be a great opportunity to play games, hike or ski (depending on the weather), have interesting conversations and of course get in touch with new people.

You just have to bring your hiking or skiing gear, a sleeping bag and yourself.

We’ll organize the transportation, the accommodation and the food. Please note that we ask for small contribution of NOK 100,- in advance.

Bowling Kveld / Bowling Night

TODOS Bowling Night for all PhD Candidates

When: 17.02.2017  18:00 – 20:00

Where: ByBowling, Storgata 68

TODOS wants to invite all PhD candidates of UiT to a evening of bowling.

A great opportunity to get to know and meet your fellows and to show them how good (or bad) your bowling skills are.

We will rent the location for 2 hours. The bowling is on us, drinks are on you. To make things easier for us please register for the event so that we know how many people to expect.

Friday 9th of December 2015 TODOS held its annual general meeting and elected a new board for 2017. The AGM was satisfied with the activities of the organization the previous year and the old board was dismissed and the new board elected. The AGM decided to reduce the board by one board member for 2017 (6 board members). The new Board will start its mandate on 01.01.2017. The minutes of the AGM will be available soon on the TODOS website. The members of the TODOS Board 2017 are as follows:

Det er tid for Tromsø Doktorgradsstudenter (TODOS) julebord, og du er invitert! Julebordet er åpent for alle stipendiater ved UiT/UNN.

Julebordet er en av årets mest populære arrangement og i fjor hadde vi venteliste. Julebordet vil bli holdt på Gründer Cafe og Bar. Vi har lokale for oss selv fra 19:00 – 23:00.

The Christmas party is one of the most popular events of the year and last year we had a waiting list. The Christmas party will be at Gründer Café and Bar and we will have the place to ourselves from 19:00 – 23:00. Just like last year: the food is on us, the drinks are on you. We have delicious tapas on the menu.

The maximum number of participants is limited, which is why registration is mandatory and on a first come, first served basis.

The “Eleventh Munin Conference on Scholarly Publishing is approaching. The Munin Conference is an annual conference on scholarly publishing and communication, primarily revolving around open access, open data and open science, and raise and debate questions related to scholarly publishing. This year’s conference (2016) is the eleventh Munin Conference and is scheduled to take place 21–22 November 2016 at the University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway. Here you can find the complete Conference program.

Last day for registration is November 6! And the conference is free of charge for UiT employees and students, but remember to sign up in order to get lunch!

Keynote speakers this year will be:

Danny Kingsley, Head of Scholarly Communication at University of Cambridge. Her previous role was as Executive Officer of the Australian Open Access Support Group. She has worked as a science communicator for 15 years, including two years with ABC Science Online as a journalist for News in Science. Danny will speak about Reward, reproducibility and recognition in research – the case for going Open.

Stephen Curry, Professor of Structural Biology at Imperial College, London. He was a member of the steering group behind The Metric Tide: Report of the Independent Review of the Role of Metrics in Research Assessment and Management (UK), and has been active in the discussions after the report was published. Stephen will speak about Zen and the Art of Academic Maintenance

Mark J. McCabe, Lecturer at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, and a Professor at SKEMA Business School, in Sophia Antipolis, France. In his research within the field of industrial organization he currently focuses on the economics of digital information goods markets (with a particular interest in scientific publishing) and the implications of the online environment for competition policy. Mark will speak about How Open Access Affects Competition in Scholarly Publishing Markets: A Tale of Good Intentions, Big Deals and Uncertain Outcomes.
