Congratulations to our colleague, Dr. Oliver Vanderpoorten, who has been granted 2.1 million NOK for his project: “Nanofluidics for label-free detection of exosomes and protein aggregates in neurodegenerative disease research (EXO-CHIP)” via the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships 2021, funded by the European HORIZON program.

In his research project, Dr. Vanderpoorten will use 2-photon lithography to produce nanofluidic chips to analyze exosomes and protein aggregates in solution without conventional fluorescent labelling. In particular, he will focus on amyloid-forming species and oligomers related to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson disease and their study at a single molecule level.

This new technology will enable filtering and imaging of small particles in a liquid – even single protein aggregates become visible – which are involved in various neurodegenerative diseases, with the use of conventional microscopes.

Congratulations Dr. Vanderpoorten!
