Professor Karin Andreassen has been elected as one of the new members of The Norwegian Academy for Science and Letters.

Professor Andreassen was awarded this honour as “one of the leading scientists in the field of glacial geology in the Barents Sea.”
She was especially recognised for her efforts to identify, quantify and characterise gas hydrates.
The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, founded in 1857, is a non-governmental, nationwide body which embraces all fields of learning. Its main purpose is to support the advancement of science and scholarship in Norway. 30 new members were elected to the Academy this year, 15 of which were elected in the Science category. Professor Andreassen was awarded her membership and diploma during the annual meeting of the Academy in May.
