Calvin Shackleton, PhD Candidate

Calvin is PhD candidate for the Role of Ice Ages research group at CAGE. He is researching subglacial environments of the past, focusing on the development and impacts of meltwater drainage systems beneath the Fennoscandian and Barents Sea ice sheets.
His research on subglacial hydrology and ice dynamics is undertaken through a combination of modelling and reconstructing past environements based on seabed geomorphology, subsurface seismic investigations, and sedimentology from cores recovered from the seafloor.
Calvin joined the Department of Geosciences at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in 2014. Prior to this he undertook a BSc and MSc at the University of Sheffield, UK, where he studied polar and alpine environments, with a dissertation on the glacial meltwater geomorphology of the last British-Irish Ice Sheet.
