Manuel Moser, PhD candidate

Manuel is a PhD candidate in the research group Gas in the Water Column
He is a marine geophysicist with a special interest in the acquisition, processing and analysis of hydro-acoustic data including single-beam/multibeam and hydrophone data. During his PhD program, Manuel will investigate the interactions between ocean and hydrocarbon-bearing seabed environments off western Svalbard and in the northwestern Barents Sea through a compilation of oceanographic, geochemical and hydro-acoustic measurements. His main objective is to identify, characterize and quantify the short- and long-term natural evolution of methane releases from the seafloor and to determine which geologic, oceanographic or atmospheric processes influence the release of methane gas and the temporal and spatial variability. His supervisors are researcher Bénédicte Ferré (CAGE) and researcher Benoît Bergès (Wageningen Marine Research, IJmuiden, Netherlands).
Manuel holds a bachelor degree in Geophysics/Oceanography (2013) from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and he received his master degree in Geophysics with focus on Marine Geophysics (2016) from the University of Kiel in cooperation with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany.
