After a long wait, the ArcticDoc writing retreat is finally back! 😊
Join us for a 3 day-2 night writing retreat at the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel from 17th to 19th August 2026. You can expect structured writing sessions in a modern conference room away from daily distractions, mixed with regular breaks to soak up the magnificent surroundings of Sommarøy in the summer. We have reserved 5 seahouses with a maximum of 30 spaces, but the exact number of spots depends on how many participants choose a private vs. shared bedroom, so sign up early to secure your spot!
The participation fee is 1250 NOK for a private bedroom, and 750 NOK for a shared bedroom in 3-bedroom seahouses with views of the water and fully equipped kitchens. 85% of the retreat costs are covered by ArcticDoc. All lunches will be fully catered by the hotel, while breakfast and dinner will be self-catered in the seahouses with all groceries provided by ArcticDoc. Dinners will be prepared in groups, so on one evening your group will cook, and on the other your dinner will be taken care of by another group.
As an academic event, the fee is reimbursable through your annum, but please verify this with your supervisors. You claim the fees the same way you do with other work-related travels. More information about how to pay will follow after the sign-up deadline.
For those traveling from other UiT campuses (Harstad, Narvik, Alta), we have reserved budget for five return journeys to Tromsø. Just indicate in the sign-up form whether you would like to apply for such a travel voucher, as everything else they are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
Upon signing up, you are bound to pay the participation fees even if you do not show up. You can change your mind up to Wednesday, 10th June 2026 at 23:59. After the sign-up deadline has passed, your participation fees may be refundable if we can fill your spot with someone from the waiting list by Thursday, 16th July 2026 — though this is not guaranteed. We recommend travel insurance in case of illness and other unforeseen events.
For the participation fee, you will get:
- A single bedroom (1250 NOK) or a shared bedroom (750 NOK) in a 3-bedroom seahouse with two shared bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. Housemates will be assigned randomly, and bedrooms will be shared by participants of the same gender. You can indicate on the sign-up form if there is another participant you would like to share with.
- Three 3-course lunches (catered), 2 x dinner (self-catered), 2 x breakfast buffet (self-catered), 2 x fruit break (catered)
- Unlimited tea and coffee at the hotel
- Unlimited use of the sauna and gym at the hotel
- Transport from and back to UiT
- Writers’ spirit (we hope)
Additional activities by the resort are available at your own expenses. We will collect interest in activities to see if we can get a better group price.
