Arctic Optica participated in Åpen Dag and SpaceDay 2024

Arctic Optica has participated in the Åpen Dag (Open Day) and SpaceDay events. The activities were designed to engage with the public and help them learn more about optics and our research at UiT.
During Åpen Dag we presented various science experiments targeting students of high school and university level, inviting them to engage with optics and photonics and hopefully choose them as their fields of study in the future. We explored polarization, diffraction, lasers, lenses, spectroscopy, and more. A particular part of the program was devoted to total internal reflection, as the basis of most of our research at UiT. The students had a chance to explore the coupling of light in waveguides and fibers and to hear about how we use this effect for the development of total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and laser absorption spectroscopy (LAS).
SpaceDay had space at its focus and optics is an important tool for space exploration. The students had an opportunity to learn about the place of optics in space-related research, from telescopes to spectroscopy.
