Inspiration day 2022

Arctic Optica participated in Inspiration Day 2022, on September 25th, in which a number of students from different schools, ages 15-16, visited our university. The aim of this project is to inspire young people to choose to remain in science classes throughout high school and hopefully chose a STEM career in the future.
The event started with a presentation by Prof. Krishna Agarwal, who described her curiosity growing up, her interest in optics later on, and her passion for the beautiful unknown, the magic of light, which led her to a PhD in Optics. Among other things, she mentioned several examples of the presence of optical phenomena in our everyday lives, such as rainbows, snow diamonds, etc.
The presentation was followed by simple demonstrations of optical phenomena and how we use them in our lives and in the labs. The demonstrations included the use of several microscopes, an endoscope (to explore the insides of a pumpkin), a waveguide, an optical fiber, diffraction glasses (OPTICA), retroreflector, fluorescent liquids, lenses, Fresnel lens, etc.
