Andreia Plaza-Faverola is a researcher within ‘Gas Hydrates and Free Gas Reservoirs‘ group at CAGE, and leader of the project SEAMSTRESS – Tectonic Stress Effects on Arctic Methane Seepage for which she was awarded two separate starting grants from Research Council of Norway, and Tromsø Research Foundation.

“Her development of innovative geophysical interpretation techniques and her interest in cross-disciplinary research has led to publications in Science and Nature Geoscience, and provide us with new knowledge about methane release from the seafloor in the Arctic”, the award committee states in a press release.

“Receiving this type of prize confirms that when we enjoy our work and find that what we do meaningful, the results are exciting and constructive. I am very grateful for this recognition.” Says Plaza-Faverola.

She proceeds to thank colleagues at CAGE and the Department of Geoscience for the nomination and for their support, which amounts to 100.000 Norwegian kroner.

Andreia Plaza-Faverola was in 2019 awarded the Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award for Women in Geosciences. This is a national award for female researchers in geosciences who through Ph.D. or postdoctoral work have made a significant contribution to research in the field.
