Call for applications – Arctic Frontiers Emerging Leaders 2016

Emerging Leaders will take place from 20 to 26 January 2016. Thirty selected candidates from different countries will participate in a blend of technical, social and cultural events accompanied by mentors from business, politics and academia. The program starts in the city of Bodø, then continues onboard the Norwegian Coastal Express Hurtigruten and ends in Tromsø, “the gateway to the Arctic”.

Emerging Leaders enrolls approximately 30 participants, under the age of 35, both Norwegians and internationals, with a blend of Ph.D. students/post docs and young professionals from the public and business sectors. The program fee is NOK 30 000 plus VAT per participant. Ph.D. students/post docs affiliated with Norwegian university colleges, universities and research institutes may apply for a grant from the Research Council of Norway. Ph.D. students/post docs at research institutions abroad who has a scientific focus relevant for Emerging Leaders 2016 could also be considered. The fee covers:

  • Accommodation (hotel accommodation for seven nights, including one night onboard Hurtigruten from Svolvær to Tromsø)
  • Food and cultural activities (including RIB trip and Lofotr Viking Museum.)
  • Registration fee for the two day policy section at the Arctic Frontiers 2016 conference

The Emerging Leader program is linked to the topic of Arctic Frontiers 2016 “Industry and Environment” and includes the following sessions:

Session 1 Politics and security in the High North

Session 2 Industry and Environment in the Arctic

Session 3 Technology development and transfer within seafood and offshore industries

Session 4 Workshop, preparing a presentation

Take control of your PhD journey: From (p)reflection to publishing

Writing a thesis is a long and winding journey. It requires competencies beyond that of your chosen topic. You must be able to find the best literature for your project, review the existing literature, use this literature according to academic norms and then publish your findings in the best possible channels.

The University Library has created a comprehensive course consisting of four independent seminars, specifically targeted at PhD students. You can take all four of them, or pick just one or two if you are already familiar the subject, or if you’re too busy just now.

Kurs for stipendiater i universitetspedagogikk høsten 2015

Result skal avholde nytt kurs for stipendiatene i universitetspedagogikk til høsten. Kurset er nå utlyst med søknadsfrist 1. august. Dette er et meget populært kurs hvor deltakerne blant annet lærer:

  • planlegge og gjennomføre undervisning
  • utvikle egne undervisningsferdigheter
  • utvikle og reflektere over egen undervisning med utgangspunkt i teori om undervisning og læring

Kurset er for stipendiater tilsatt ved UiT med 4 års ansettelsesforhold, hvorav 25 % av arbeidstiden er avsatt til pliktarbeid (herunder undervisningsoppgaver). Det anbefales at søkere til kurset i høstsemesteret behersker norsk (eller et nordisk språk). Søker må ha avtale om undervisningsoppgaver det semesteret kurset i universitetspedagogikk ønskes tatt og være godkjent av nærmeste leder. Fullført kurs gir deltakerne 50 timer uttelling av arbeidsplikten i stipendiatstillingen. Det tas opp inntil 20 personer per kurs.

Submissions are invited for the 10th Munin Conference on Scholarly Publishing, to be held in Tromsø 30 November–1 December 2015 at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The Munin Conferences raise and debate questions related to scholarly publishing.

We hereby welcome abstract submissions for presentations and posters for this year’s conference, on topics including but not limited to:
– The role of higher education institutions in developing/transforming scholarly publishing
– Assessments and evaluations based on scholarly publishing output at the institutional and individual level
– The role of the journals and the mission of publishing: Quality verification, branding, discourse, open science agent and more
– Micropublications: E.g. twitter, wikis, blogs, communication tools
– Research data
